50 Years New in Asia: From Inside the Forbidden City, an Imperial ‘Dragon’ Vase

HONG KONG | 8 APRIL

A special commission by the Yongzheng Emperor, this exceedingly rare puce enamel ‘dragon’ vase is a masterpiece ranking among the most scarce and sought-after category of Qing imperial porcelain. Identified as falangcai by its square blue-enamelled reign mark, the vase was painted in the imperial enamelling workshops inside Beijing’s Forbidden City, while its shape, size and design evokes porcelains produced in the imperial kilns of Jingdezhen, in Jiangxi.
