The first Royal Oak was created in 1972 and designed by the legendary watchmaker Gérald Genta, who drew inspiration for its shape from a ship's porthole and completed its blueprints overnight. With 50 years in production, the Royal Oak has undergone 500 variations. With this in mind, the Royal Oak case remains decorative and practical with an octagonal shape, extreme thinness, water resistance and a hexagonal crown.
