Description

The Omega Chronostop was introduced in the mid-60s with the unusual feature of a sideways-oriented dial, designed to be worn by drivers on the inside of the wrist. It utilizes a 60-second chronograph mechanism operated by a single pusher, ideal for timing laps or quarter-mile times while keeping both hands on the steering wheel.

The mono-pusher stopwatch is started with the initial press of the pusher, then it is pressed and held to freeze the orange hand and read the seconds. When the pusher is released, the totalizer returns to zero.

The Chronostop was built with two separate movements, caliber 865 and 920. The former has no date, the latter does, and that is the only difference between the two. Both movements were made exclusively for the Chronostop and were not used in any other Omega watch.

The watch is in overall good condition with light wear throughout commensurate with age. Bracelet has minor signs of stretch and surface wear. Dial is fading and peeling due to the age of the watch. The movement is running at the time of cataloging, however, it was not tested for the accuracy of time or duration of the power reserve and may need service at the buyer's discretion. Please note that Sotheby's does not guarantee the future working of the movement.
