The 42mm square three-body solid case, downturned lugs and flat stepped bezel with 8 screws are polished/brushed. The dial is opaline-white with eight screws, a secret Cartier signature at VII and black Roman numeral hour markers. It includes black oxidized steel sword hands with luminous inserts, a center sweep chronograph seconds hand and a perimeter railway-style minute/second scale. There is a date aperture window between the 4 and 5 o'clock positions with a corrector for adjustment at 10 o'clock on the left-side case band. There are three round subsidiary dials, including a running small seconds register at 9 o'clock, a 12-hour chronograph totalizer at 6 o'clock and a 30-minute chronograph indicator is at 3 o'clock. It's water-resistant to 100 meters/330 feet, and it has a 44-hour power reserve at full wind. The 10.1mm thick case, dial and movement are all signed.
This Cartier Santos 100 XL Chronograph W20090X8 has a mechanical automatic self-winding Cartier caliber 8630 MC movement. It's rhodium plated, with fausses cotes embellishment. It's constructed with 27 jewels, a straight-line lever escapement and a shock absorber device. It includes a monometallic balance, a self-compensating flat balance spring and a hacking seconds device for precision time setting.
The year 1904 is an important milestone in Cartier's 165-year history: the launch of the iconic Cartier Santos developed at the request of the Brazilian aviator Alberto Santos Dumont. Designed for convenient timekeeping while in flight, it became hugely successful and saw continued production over the years. The Cartier Santos 100 collection was released to commemorate its 100th anniversary. Functional and luxurious, the Cartier Santos 100 echoes the treasured legacy of its predecessor.
