Ronald W. Longsdorf, 《陶誌:中國新石器時代陶器 約西元前7000年 – 前1000年》,香港,2020年,圖版73
Neatly painted in sepia with two registers of triangular motifs around the pear-shaped body, below echoing pendent triangular lappets of cross-hatching motifs encircling the flared rim, the painted geometrical designs on the present jar are relatable to those on contemporaneous pottery vessels, and were likely drawn from the Neolithic potters' daily routine to depict elements of nature, such as mountains reflected in water.
See a slightly earlier inlaid pottery jar from the Majiayao culture, also from the collection of Ronald W. Longsdorf and similarly decorated with cross-hatching motifs and triangular elements, sold in these rooms, 25th May 2022, lot 815.
