Bridget Riley Reflects on the Enduring Legacy of Mondrian

New York | 14 November

Painted at the high point of Piet Mondrian’s career, the Composition No. II (1930) possesses the balance, harmony and “life” that drove the artist to create the most daring compositions of the twentieth century. It was through the careful balance of color (or lack of color) and form expressed through vertical and horizontal lines that Mondrian created his ultimate vision, as embodied in the present work. Artist Bridget Riley CH CBE discusses how Mondrian's work evolved over the course of his career and how his true personality shone through in his later works.

Mondrian’s Composition No. II will be offered in the Modern Evening Auction on 14 November at Sotheby’s New York.
