Biography
Mr Sam Shum, a Hong Kong native, joined Sotheby’s in 1994. Over the last decade, Mr Shum has been instrumental in organising numerous important single-owner sales, including the Highly Important Ming and Qing Porcelain (1997), the Eight Treasures from a Private Collection (1998), The Extraordinary Collection from a Private Trust (2000), as well as the most recent successful theme sales including Legacies of Imperial Power (October 2008); and Eight Treasures from a European Collection (April 2009), An Important Private Collection of Qing Historical Works of Art (October 2010) and The Meiyintang Collection Parts I to V (2011 to 2013).
Since joining Sotheby’s, Mr Shum has made notable contributions to the Department’s business development and expansion. With his expertise focused on Ming and Qing porcelain, Mr Shum has brought to the Department his profound knowledge in the category and the market. Mr Shum has particularly strong relations with Asian collectors and has built an extensive client network.
