N amed the “interior designer for the young and wealthy” by the New York Times, Sasha Bikoff draws her unique aesthetic from any number of sources – from eighteenth-century Rococo design to the American moddish space age to the Italian Memphis school of the 1980s. Here, Bikoff shares her favorite objects from Sotheby’s current Design auction, featuring spectacular lighting by Tiffany Studios to cutting-edge contemporary furniture by some of the best designers of the day.

I love design from the sixties because it really tells a story of the era’s curiosity of technology and space travel. Although considered vintage, this space-age piece is the perfect example of modernity. The juxtaposition of the warm, colored lights and the austere silver make it a very interesting piece. The details of the small, perforated edges in combination with the large, circled lights make it very playful. I can see this piece in a grand living room, almost taking on the role of a sculpture.

I have an affinity for anything with butterflies. They’re a motif in nature that inspires me. It’s fun to decorate spaces with whimsical features from nature that we feel passionate about – that’s what gives a home a personalized touch. The amber glass and multicolored pictorial images with a slight hint of iridescence really make this a magical piece. It’s a small way to give a room that big wow effect. I could picture using this on a desk, a vanity or even a nightstand.

I have a passion for tablescapes and I love to entertain in style. These glass bowls are so unique with their iridescent shimmer. I can imagine them looking stunning on open shelving or in a China cabinet. They are definitely meant to be on display!
