In this Sotheby's Spotlight video, Head of Impressionist and Modern Art Day Sale Holly Braine selects two exceptional works from the Impressionist and Modern Art category of the Modern and Contemporary Day Auction. The first is Paysage à Pointose, temps gris by Impressionist heavyweight Camille Pissarro from 1875, which demonstrates an aesthetic that would dominate the avant-garde over the next decade. The second work is a 1926 oil by Kandinsky entitled Schluss (Conclusion), which comes during the period when Kandinsky's preoccupation with geometric abstraction was at its height. Both of them encapsulate the extraordinary breadth of artistic achievement from the Impressionist and Modern Art category.
