This sale will be the first of its kind to present masterpieces from these diverse collecting fields in one landmark auction. Celebrating one of the largest and most significant private collections of American Art to come to market in recent history, The Spirit of America sale highlights the connoisseurship of Erving and Joyce Wolf and their keen eye for collecting American art and objects across all time periods and genres. This evening sale features the finest selection of American paintings, bronzes, 20th century design, furniture, Chinese export ceramics and silverware meticulously assembled by the family since the 1970s. Included in The Spirit of America is William Merritt Chase’s masterpiece In the Studio, accompanied by exquisite Hudson River School paintings by Cropsey, Silva, Lane and others.
